Aaron's hospital stay

Last week was one tough week for the Pella VL's - especially for Aaron. As the previous post explained, he has RSV. On Wednesday he had a great morning but in the afternoon he started to go down hill. He had difficulty breathing and was fussy. The next morning when I was changing his diaper I noticed that his feet and his hands were purple/bluish. I got an appointment right away for him and when we got there Dr. B knew right away he'd need to be hospitalized just by looking at him. We were whisked off to get another chest x-ray and were admitted to the hospital.

We were in the hospital for 2 nights watching his O2 count closely. Thursday night was a rough night with Aaron having the longest stretch at 1.5 hours of sleep. That equalled a VERY tired Mommy. Chad and Nathan slept at home that night (lucky dudes!) Nathan headed up to Ankeny to spend the weekend with Grandma Doreen and Big Papa and then Uncle Seth and Aunt Heather - Thank you so much everyone!! Friday night Chad stayed with me in the room so I got a little more sleep. Yay!

I couldn't bear to take a picture of Aaron at his worst- so waited until Friday to capture him with his oxygen and cage-like crib. Even though the boy felt terrible he always had a smile for everyone that came in to care for him. He was such a trooper and won over many hearts. We were very happy to get the green light to take him home on Saturday morning!! By the time we were all checked out we got home around noon with knowledge on what to watch for in case we needed to head back in. Everyone got great sleep Saturday night!! Praise the Lord for a great husband who let me sleep in until 9:45!! Boy did I need that as Aaron is passing on his lovely germs to his Mommy.

It's great to have everyone home! We are armed with antibiotics and a nebulizer to fight off the yuck. Back up germs, this Momma is armed and ready to fight back!

Thank you to Big Papa and Grandma Doreen for watching Nathan and the balloons that entertained Aaron and thank you to Uncle Seth and Aunt Heather for playing with Nathan and taking him sledding! We are truly blessed with amazing family and friends!!
