Thursday night we arrived in Chicago in time for dinner and a trip to an Irish pub to celebrate St. Patrick's day. I think it brought back memories of visiting such establishments in college for all of us.
Friday morning we all slept in (sweet heaven!) and ventured out for some grub. We decided to go to Yolks every morning it was so good.
Friday morning we enjoyed walking around the city doing some light shopping and then taking naps before getting all gussied up for dinner and the opera. Neither Chad nor I have ever been to the opera so we were excited for a new experience. Dinner was at the opera house - quite convenient - and then we went to a 30 minute lecture on the story of Carmen. We were all glad we went to understand the storyline more. They also display the lyrics in English during the opera since it's all in French.Isn't he so darn handsome?!
Kind of felt like prom!

Chad and I are both incredibly thankful for these two amazing individuals and are blessed by their friendship!
Getting back to our hotel we quickly changed into more comfortable clothing and gathered for some post opera discussion and wine. I don't think there was a night that we were in bed before midnight! Needless to say we slept in again on Saturday. That day we headed back to our favorite breakfast spot and ventured out into the city again. We did dinner picnic style since Whole Foods was just a block away and decided to check out the Redhead Piano Bar. Oh, man. That was so much fun and so hilarious! 
Okay - so there are times when you think "That person just can't be real" and they totally are. Can you figure out who I might be referring to? If you've picked out the dude with the long black hair and lovely facial hair wearing plaid you're dead on. Oh. My. Stars! His lovely gyrating dancing and very expressive singing was enough to leave you crying from laughter. There were a number of people doing just as we were - trying to take his picture! He wanted the piano player "Stan" to sing Italian Restaurant and was certain to ask repeatedly all night.
We ended up sitting right at the piano so we got front row seats and had such a great time singing and people watching. There was also another couple that looked like they may have just gotten engaged and she'd been doing quite a bit of celebrating b/c she could hardly keep her poor eyes open.
Can you believe these old heads were there until midnight and didn't get to bed until after 1am?
We all roused the next morning to pack up and head to the Chicago House of Blues for their Sunday Gospel Brunch. It was OUTSTANDING! It was the perfect way to end our trip as it was raining once we left.
